The Other One with the Sugar Sand

Week 19 (Dec 27th-Jan 2nd)

Welcome to 2017! I hope it's a great year for each of you and that you rang it in more festively than I did. We did our best, but when you're a missionary with a 10:30pm bed time it's a little difficult to party. But we still found a way. Shout out to 99c party hats and martinelli's. Truthfully, I just didn't feel right not doing a countdown; so I set an alarm for 11:57 and got up and went to our breezeway just in time to count down from ten, pour myself a glass of apple cider and enjoy the fireworks.

Chloe is on date for baptism and progressing fast! She's so smart and she remembers everything she's taught. The only thing is that her attention span is approx 15min. So we have to keep things fast paced and entertaining. But she's come so far so fast and we're so excited.

Lillian feels strongly prompted that she needs to see the temple in Orlando and feel the spirit there. So you bet we set a date and got a ride set up real quick. She's our most promising and magnificent investigator, but she hasn't quite agreed to baptism yet. She recognizes Heavenly Father guiding her life often, in very specific ways. Like when she first felt prompted to call the Sister Missionaries back, or to go to Church for the first time. She just doesn't feel like she has received a strong answer about baptism yet, but she's continually praying about it and is seriously considering it. We think that she'll get her answer that she needs to be baptized when she sees the temple and is able to tour the grounds. The temple is so beautiful inside and out and it is immediately identifiable as a house of the Lord by the Spirit that emanates from it. Pray that she'll get her answer that baptism is her next step! She's so close.

Sister Carter and I continue to be plagued by car troubles. We got stuck. again. in sugar sand. ...again. We're both about ready to just ride our bikes everywhere because we are done with this nonsense. Either that or they need to give us a car with four wheel drive because this is getting ridiculous. We were searching for a less active in Umatilla, and the roads were tremendously bumpy and sandy. There was a lot of nervous laughter at first, but then we really started to get anxious and decided pretty quickly we should get back to the paved road and get outta dodge.

The moment we decided to get out of there, we turned down a road of sugar sand and dirt so high that there was no hope. We were stuck. We prayed. three kind Samaritans with four wheel drive and thick rope stopped and helped us out. We didn't get out unscathed this time, though. The front of the bumper is hanging on one side and is precariously close to dragging along the road when we drive. But it doesn't! Tender mercies, I suppose. We'll take it in Tuesday.

As part of our New Years Eve festivities Sister Carter and I got to enjoy a wonderful dinner at Olive Garden! My amazing Mother sent us some gift cards for Christmas so we could have a lovely evening out 😊 Our server was even a less active member for the next ward over! It was a splendid time. Thank you Mom! 💛

May all your New Years resolutions come true,
